Hiking on Tenerife: Arona to Roque del Conde to Roque de los Brezos and back

In the area of Arona, there are many distinct mountains. They each reach up to 1000 meters high, but their height makes a big impression because you can observe them almost from the sea level. So one afternoon I’ve decided to go for a hike to a nearby mountain with quite interesting, flat top.

To the Roque del Conde

I’ve started my journey in the tiny village of Vento, near Arona. The path crossed first some small, completely dry river canyon and then began to climb and traverse the slope gradually.

In the beginning, the trail was quite comfortable, but after I’ve reached some kind higher grounds its got more difficult.

The final ascent was challenging but after an about total time of 1 hour I’ve finally reached the top. It was indeed a flat area, looks like some if was transformed by local people, but I didn’t have any information about that.

The clouds started to cover the peak as I was walking around it admiring the view in different directions. Each was distinct and nice in its own way.

On the east, I’ve seen some villages like Arona and La Camella. To the south, I could admire the sunny Costa Adeje and Los Christianos. West was a view towards Barranco del Infierno peaks, which I hiked a few days earlier. And on the north, I’ve seen further part of Arona and some more mountains which were my distant target.

The descent and the next parts of the track were challenging. There were considerably step walls, and I’ve been following some challenging traverse for few hundred meters. But the views were breathtaking, and I’ve been stopping every few minutes to take more and more photos.

Towards Roque de los Brezos

The Roque del Conde mountain was left behind as I continued my march in the rays of the sunset. I’ve really enjoyed this part.

Except for 2 people I’ve passed by on the first mountain I did not encounter anyone further. Beautifull colors of the grass, plants, rocks, curved path slicing and traversing the mountain, subtle wind.

I’ve reached the pass between Roque de los Brezos and Roque Imoque already past the sunset. It was still bright, so I’ve decided to attack one of the peaks.

My original plan was to reach both, but I’ve realized that I won’t have enough time to do it before it is completely dark. I was also already feeling a bit tired. The summit was not that far away, in 10 minutes I’ve climbed final hundred meters and reached it.

After short rest on top of Roque de los Brezos (1109m), I’ve started descent towards my starting point. It took me some time to get there. I’ve even tried to run some parts of the route but it was not comfortable with the tripod and my Canon camera, so I’ve settled for a quick walk.

When I’ve finally arrived at my card, it was dark, and I’ve felt quite exhausted. Good thing that I had some reserve of non-alc beer in the car trunk, I could grab one now and refresh.

In total, it took me about 5 hours, 17km total for the whole route. I was exhausted at the end, but I’m delighted that I’ve done this hike - with all the scenic views, beautiful trails, and sunset on the way it will be a great memory.
